An upbeat coffeeshop that’s focused on the experience of enjoying coffee with friends.
Focused on making the best coffee possible, Amika is a brazilian coffee house located in Fortaleza, CE. Unlike other coffeeshops in its town that are more committed to snacks and sandwiches (go figure) , the main players here are the amazing flavors and nuances of different grains from all over the country, just like they should be.
The design was all about offering a warm and welcoming enviroment to all comers. It doesn’t matter if you just want an espresso after lunch or if you’ve scheduled a work metting on the upstairs lounge, we just wanted people to feel at home.
All the artwork was comissioned to an up and coming group of brazilian artists and the amazing graphics on the second floor were done by Chico Neto (http://www.behance.net/ChicoNeto).
Most of the structural elements were left untouched, evoking an industrial feel. The steel beams and brick walls with their mat finishes contrast nicely with the high gloss veneered finish of the tables. Also, the floor is done in custom cut slate tiles.
All of the woodwork was done in pinus boards, allowing a more economical approach and providing a much needed lighter tone in the color pallet
Many of the of pieces of furniture were custom made, including the magazine rack done in copper tubes. The lounge chairs were upholstered with original coffee bags made out of juta. All of these items give an unique feel to the place and in conjunction with the renowed design chairs, benches and lamps really create a contemporary space.
All in all, Amika (deriving from the italian word amica – friend) asks only that you do exactly that: bring your friends over, stay as long as you’d like and perhaps make some new ones.
